Synthetic analogue of tuftsin. Investigated for anxiolytic and nootropic properties.
Overview
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of tuftsin, an endogenous immunomodulatory tetrapeptide. It was originally developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and has been the subject of published Russian research into its behavioural and nootropic properties in animal models.
This vial contains 5mg of Selank as a lyophilised powder for reconstitution with sterile diluent in the laboratory.
What is Selank?
Selank was designed as a stabilised analogue of the naturally occurring peptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg), with three additional amino acids added to the C-terminus to improve stability against enzymatic degradation. Published research in animal models has investigated Selank in the context of behavioural response, GABA receptor pathway activity, and inflammatory marker modulation.
Scientists are investigating how Selank interacts with:
GABA receptor pathway research
Behavioural models of stress response
Enkephalinase enzyme activity research
BDNF expression studies in rodent models
Immunomodulatory cytokine research
Mechanism of Action
The proposed mechanism is thought to involve modulation of GABAergic neurotransmission and inhibition of enkephalin-degrading enzymes. Researchers have also explored whether Selank influences BDNF expression in the hippocampus of rodents, a marker often studied in nootropic research contexts. The precise downstream pathways remain an active area of investigation in the published literature.
Published Research
Most of the published literature on Selank comes from Russian research groups, with studies dating back to the 1990s. The peptide has been investigated in behavioural models, cognitive research protocols in rodents, and in vitro receptor binding studies.
Published research in animal models has explored Selank in the context of:
Behavioural stress response in rodent models
Cognitive performance research protocols in rodents
Inflammatory marker studies
GABA pathway research
BDNF modulation studies
Clinical data in humans outside of Russia is limited, and Selank is not approved by the TGA for any therapeutic indication.
Quality and Verification
Every batch ships with a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis documenting purity by HPLC (≥99%) and mass spectrometry confirmation of peptide identity. The vial is shipped lyophilised to preserve stability during transit and should be stored at -20°C prior to reconstitution and 2-8°C after reconstitution in the laboratory.
